Greenwich Market
makers, vintage and street food under one roof
A covered arts and crafts market in the heart of maritime Greenwich, free to browse, full of makers, vintage and a tightly packed ring of brilliant street food.
Free to visit · Greenwich · Cutty Sark (DLR) · SE10 9HZ
Opening: Wed–Sun · check days for antiques vs makers
Tucked inside a ring of Georgian buildings in the centre of old Greenwich is a covered market that has traded since the 1700s. Greenwich Market is small, characterful and free to wander, and it leans towards arts, crafts and makers rather than mass-produced tat.
On any given day you will find handmade jewellery, prints, ceramics and vintage, with antiques and collectables taking over on certain weekdays. The food is the modern star, a dense cluster of independent traders cooking everything from Ethiopian to brownies in a space small enough to smell it all at once.
What sets it apart is the setting. You step out of the market straight into maritime Greenwich, the Cutty Sark, the Naval College, the park and the river all a few minutes walk, making it the natural free heart of a whole day out by the Thames.
Getting there: Two minutes from Cutty Sark on the DLR, right in the middle of the old town between the Cutty Sark and the Royal Naval College.
Best time to go: A weekend for the fullest market and the buzz, or a quieter Wednesday or Thursday if you want room to browse the stalls.
Insider tip: Use it as the food stop in a free Greenwich day. Eat here, then walk it off up the hill through the park to the Observatory viewpoint, or down to the river and the foot tunnel. The market is the one indoor, weatherproof link in the chain.
