Pink Floyd Plaque
where the floyd first played
A plaque marking the central London college where the students who became Pink Floyd first met and formed the band.
Free to visit · Fitzrovia · Oxford Circus · W1B 2HW
Opening: Exterior viewable any time
Three of the founding members of Pink Floyd, among the most influential bands in rock history, met as architecture students at the Regent Street Polytechnic, now part of the University of Westminster. A plaque on the grand Regent Street building marks where Roger Waters, Nick Mason and Richard Wright came together in the early 1960s and began the journey that led to the band.
It is easy to stride past on one of London's busiest shopping streets without a glance. It is free to find, a small tribute to a very ordinary student beginning for a band that would go on to fill stadiums and reshape modern music.
Getting there: On Regent Street at the former Regent Street Polytechnic, near Oxford Circus.
Best time to go: Daytime, on a walk along Regent Street.
Insider tip: Look for the plaque on the university building on Regent Street, easy to miss among the shopfronts. It is a short walk from the West End's other music landmarks, so pair it with a wider rock-history wander.
