Queer Britain
the uk's first lgbtq+ museum
The UK's first national LGBTQ+ museum, free, in a smart space by Granary Square at King's Cross, telling queer British history and culture through objects, photography and changing shows.
Free to visit · King's Cross · King's Cross St Pancras · N1C 4BH
Opening: Wed–Sun · check times · free admission
Queer Britain opened in 2022 as the UK's first dedicated national LGBTQ+ museum, and it is free. Set in a bright space near Granary Square at King's Cross, it gathers and tells the stories of queer life in Britain, histories that for too long were left out of the big institutions.
Its changing exhibitions draw on photography, protest banners, personal objects and art to cover everything from the fight for rights to culture, music and everyday lives. It is thoughtful, moving and often joyful, and being free it is open to anyone who wants to learn or see themselves reflected.
It sits in one of the liveliest free corners of London, steps from the Coal Drops Yard shops, the Granary Square fountains and the canal, so it slots neatly into a wider afternoon of free things to do around King's Cross.
Getting there: Just off Granary Square at King's Cross, a few minutes walk from the station.
Best time to go: A weekday afternoon for a calm visit, or fold it into a wander round the King's Cross fountains and Coal Drops Yard.
Insider tip: It is small, so it works perfectly alongside the free fountains and architecture of Granary Square and Coal Drops Yard right next door. Check what temporary show is on before you go, as the exhibitions change.
