Thamesmead Festival: a free day of music by the lake

Thamesmead's award-winning community festival takes over Southmere Park for one free day every August, with four stages of music, dance, comedy and spoken word plus a dog show, boating and a craft and food market on the lake. It was revived in 2017 with 1,000 visitors and has grown to more than 8,500. In 2026 it runs Saturday 8 August, 12pm to 7.30pm, entirely free with no booking needed.

This festival is run by Peabody and the Thamesmead community, not London Free Guide. It returns every August but the date, lineup and programme are confirmed closer to the day, so check thamesmeadnow.org.uk before you travel.

Go East Vintage Flea: a free vintage market in Bermondsey
Go East Vintage runs a free vintage flea market most weekends at Maltby Street in Bermondsey, plus an indoor edition inside the railway arches on selected weekends. Free entry, no ticket, dog-friendly, just turn up. Expect 40 plus vintage sellers with furniture, vinyl, cameras, fashion, jewellery and odd little treasures, right by Maltby Street Market's food stalls. Dates move around a little, so check Go East Vintage's Instagram for the exact weekend before you go.
